I am an avid book reader. I am almost always in the middle of a read with the hope that the book has a plot or variety of characters that just, well sticks with me. Which is why I am excited about the new film opening up today based on The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett.
The book is set in the deep South in the 1960s with the lead character, Skeeter tries to navigate a mine field of politics, culture and breaking the mold. The book focuses on relationships between the African American women “the help” who are allow to raise the children of white women, but not polish the silver. The book is filled with characters that were well developed and each with their own distinct voice.
It’s even better when the book becomes a movie that actually does the book justice. I am planning on seeing the movie tonight, and I can’t wait to give a movie review tomorrow!
Haven’t read The Help yet? Get it here on Amazon!
Update: I saw the film last night and it was a wonderful adaptation of the book. The costuming, set details and character development had me right there in the story. Great film!
